Roads to Jobs
Roads to Jobs Life Skills for Construction Careers is a training program offered by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). This workforce development initiative is designed to help prepare job candidates for road construction careers. Candidates who successfully complete the Roads to Jobs course will receive a certification giving them preference in FDOT’s OnBoard4Jobs Construction Careers Program, another service offered by FDOT to help match job seekers with available jobs in the road construction industry.
The Roads to Jobs Life Skills for Construction Careers Program offers a five-day course covering the following areas identified by contractors as necessary proficiencies:
- Basic math
- Basic grammar
- Road construction terminology
- Safety practices and procedures
- Resume and application preparation
- Job interview preparation
There is no cost to participate in the Roads to Jobs Life Skills for Construction Careers Program. It is FREE and open to anyone interested in pursuing opportunities in the road construction industry. Participants will be required to pass a background screening and drug test in order to successfully complete the program. Minorities, women and disadvantaged individuals are sought after and highly encouraged to participate.
Partnership – STARS (Successful Training and Retention Services) program, sponsored by the Pinellas Ex-offenders Re-entry Coalition and the Pinellas County Urban League
Course dates: May 7 to June 8 (Orientation May 4), 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Qualifications: Over 18 and unemployed
Partnership – Women Building Futures, sponsored by the Centre for Women
Course dates: June 7 to September 13, 6-8 p.m.
Qualifications: Class size is limited to 20 women
The Roads to Jobs Like Skills for Construction Careers
Course dates: June 11-14, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age
